I take the quote to mean that when we find ourselves irritated about a situation it, those feelings can show us a lot about who we are. For instance, I live with my brother and sister and I find that when they do something that irritates me I start doubting my decision to let them stay with me. It doesn't matter what they did, it's about how I feel internally about the situation. I learn that I'm quick to doubt when I'm irritated about something I chose to do.
